I’m not a hipster, and definitely not a follower…but avocado toast? Yes, I’ll follow. And if that makes me look like a hipster, then hip-hip-hooray! I’m not afraid to say I love avocado toast. I’ve enjoyed it dozens of places, and it’s never disappointe. And it’s always been pretty consistent. Except today. Today was the day I stumbled upon some avocado toast that absolutely knocked my socks off, and three bites in, I knew would be awarded the Ramblin’ Randy Best Avocado Toast Award.
Boom.
And I know what you’re thinking: How do strawberries go with avocado? I had the same question; but got the answer in one bite: It just does. This toast was so amazing, I drove back to Aosa Coffee the next day to do it all over again. This treat was just absolutely the best avocado toast, by far, that I’ve ever tasted. End of story. You’re just gonna have to come through and try for yourself.
What added to the experience was the coffee shop itself. I wandered around the Huntington Beach, California strip mall for ten minutes looking for a breakfast spot while my car was charging. I was looking for an actual restaurant-restaurant; the kind that served bacon and eggs. After my second tour through the mall, I settled on a coffee shop called Aosa, and little did I know it would become an absolute score.
The staff was just as awesome as the toast. Mike and Kiana were so welcoming and charming; I asked–almost rhetorically–if they were the owners, fully expecting a no. But they were! The husband and wife team offered more than great service, but they truly brightened my day. Soon I was eating my breakfast at a giant bench-table, chatting it up with one of the other patrons. Everything about Aosa felt good, from the food, to the service, to the other guests and the bookshelves full of board games. Aosa would make a great spot to hang out with friends and I’m looking forward to returning and trying the other items on the menu. In fact, Mike and Kiana’s place is a serious contender for Best Coffee Shop in general!
