Best Elevator Music – Le Méridien
So how is this even a category? Well I made it one, that’s how…based solely on the amazing feels that flowed through my soul while riding the elevator up to the 22nd floor of the Le Méridien Saigon. You know that feeling when you hear just the right song, at the right time, and it makes you the hairs on your arm stand up? That happened.
Upon doing some research (I had a hunch this was no ordinary elevator Muzak), I discovered that the Le Méridien chain had actually developed and put together its own soundtrack…an entire soundtrack just for their property! Who does that??? Le Méridien does.
The entire soundtrack is comprised of music from Nouvelle Vague, a French band whose name means “new wave,” and refers simultaneously to the French New Wave cinema movement of the 1960s and to the new wave music movement of the 1970s and 1980s, including Bossa Nova, a musical style that the band frequently uses in their works.
Fun fact: Bossa Nova is one of my favorite genres of music. It’s no surprise this music moved me and earned Le Méridien the award for best elevator music. Sometimes little things do mean a lot.
