Philadelphia, PA – International Airport
I landed in Philly after taking a brutal red-eye from San Diego, in the middle seat! The ride was awful. However, upon exiting the aircraft and stepping into the airport my mood immediately changed…from the simple fact that they were bumping classic Philly soul music throughout the airport. Yup, sweet Philly soul emanating from the overhead speakers. This just seemed to immediately and automatically lift the mood.
Why don’t all airports do this? Traveling is miserable. Travelers are miserable. But throw down some jams when people least expect it, and watch the vibe change! I was groovin’ all the way through the terminal.
Finally, there’s a Marriot at the airport–like physically there, inside the airport, no shuttle required! I absolutely love when there is a hotel connected to the airport. Makes is easy to take a nap on a long layover.
Give me some funky tunes and a bed, and I am set. Great airport!
UPDATE – JULY 18th, 2018:
Time to connect through Philly for the first time again in four years! I was coming from a Kenya – London flights and I was wiped! But anxiously and hopefully awaiting that great music on the overhead sound system at Philly International. Would it still be there? I tried to prepare myself for disappointment: a lot can change in four years.
To my absolute surprise, not only was the airport music bumpin’, but minutes after stepping off the plane I was greeted with LIVE music! Yes!!! A wonderful band set up on a stage, not only playing music–but some of my favorite songs! Here’s a quick clip and montage of the songs:
Pretty amazing right? I’m not exaggerating when I say the hairs on my arm stood straight up and I felt a chill down my spine listening to this great music. Just a phenomenal treat!
Man, a HUUUUUGE thumbs up, pat on the back, and THANK YOU, to whoever is responsible for providing not just the music, but the whole “vibe” at Philly International. #JustPlaneFun
Even their website is one of the best airport websites around: www.phl.org
I do hope you’ll have the opportunity to travel to or through PHL one day soon, and I hope you’ll appreciate the music as much as I did!
