I would have never expected to have the best crêpe of my life in Algeria, but some of the sweetest surprises happen while traveling.
My guide Omar had taken me for a walking tour all around Algiers and we both worked up quite an appetite. When he suggested stopping for a crêpe, I said, “Hell yeah,” before he even finished his sentence. Minutes later we arrived at Crêpa.
Before I even had a chance to scan the overhead menu, Omar’s friend at Crêpa, Mohamed, told us to have a seat and let him whip us up something special. We were about to get hooked up.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when the crêpes arrived, and after two bites I knew Crêpa would make my Best Of list.
First, let’s take a few moments to study my magnificent crêpe, below. Just spend some time with it…
I hope you noticed beside that Nutella-filled crêpe–which by itself would’ve made me content–is a big, fat Algerian banana on top, instantly transforming this dessert into a healthy choice. Then, hidden under the magic Oreo-dust and chopped nuts, is strawberry sauce, a pineapple ring, and a slice of apricot. Condensed milk and even more Nutella are drizzled over the top, with a heart to make you smile. And to add insult to injury, just a few M&Ms, to spit in the face of every other crêpe maker in the world. Complete dominance.
If you’re planning a trip to Crêpa, just know that this special crêpe can’t be found anywhere on the menu. Ask for Mohamed, and maybe it’d be best to take a screen shot of this with you, for reference. Tell him Ramblin’ Randy sent ya.

I’ve had amazing crepes in Paris straight from the street vendors near the Sacre Ceour in Monmatre. To say Algiers has significantly better crepes really intrigues me! Can’t wait to read more posts about your time in Algeria.
